Before my husband and I pursued the option of Invitro-fertilization we wanted to find out what our religion had to say on the subject. the Catholic church believes that as long as all the viable embryos are implanted and none are frozen, then it is o.k .
They feel that at the moment that the sperm penetrates the egg and cell division begins, the soul is created. Therefore, if any of the embyros are frozen they are held in captivity and the Bible strongly teaches against holding the innocent in captivity.
This brings us to a moral issue. The doctor says that it would not be advisable to have all embyos implanted at one time. The reseaons he advises against this are numerous. Multiple gestations can cause multiple birth defects, not counting the health issues that can arise for me during the preganacy. (Keep in mind I'm not talking about twins here, I'm talking about sextuplets.)
We have a choice, we can opt to implant a few, and if they don't take we can go back at a later date and try again with the frozen ones or we go the other route and put in God's hands.
What would you do?
